Welcome to tilde: Melbourne Trans and Gender Diverse Film Festival 2018! This year’s Festival program is packed with stories that represent the rich tapestry of trans and gender diverse people’s lives. Family (chosen or otherwise) forms a strong thread through our selection of films this year, reminding us of the vital importance of connection, and the strength and power to be found in community.

At tilde, we prioritise and are proud to support the work of trans and gender diverse (TGD) filmmakers. We are especially excited that more than half of the films in this year’s program have involved TGD writers, producers and directors. This includes our Opening and Closing Night films: TransGeek and Man Made.

The tilde Festival program represents the best TGD cinema on offer – locally, regionally, and internationally. Major highlights of our 2018 program include two local documentary series: Transblack, which delves into the lives of four Indigenous trans people; and Unboxed, by trans filmmaker Sam Matthews. We are delighted that representatives from both of these series are joining us as guests of the Festival, and attending the screenings.

tilde continues its commitment to accessibility in 2018, with Open Captions coinciding with our youth shorts session. We are also reaching out this year to more TGD community organisations – particularly with a youth focus – in regional Victoria, and look forward to strengthening these connections in years ahead.

Our endless thanks goes out to all of the individuals, groups, and organisations that have supported tilde this year – as sponsors, partners, and friends – in order to make this important event happen. Special thanks to Footscray Community Arts Centre for continuing to work with us as a company-in-residence, and providing a fabulous venue for us to collaborate, create, and celebrate.
